Commodity Group Setting in Inventory Management Module

The Commodity Group classification helps organize inventory items efficiently. This data is used in the Commodity Group dropdown on the Add/Edit Item page.


1. Adding a New Commodity Group

To add a new commodity group to your organization:

Step 1: Access Commodity Group Settings

  1. Navigate to Settings under the Inventory Module from the left sidebar.
  2. Select Commodity Group from the menu.
  3. Click the Add Commodity Group button.

Step 2: Enter Commodity Group Details

On the Add Commodity Group page, fill in the following details:

  1. Commodity Group Code – Enter a unique identifier for the commodity group.
  2. Commodity Group Name – Specify the name of the commodity group.
  3. Order – The lower the order number, the higher the commodity group appears in the Commodity Group dropdown.
  4. Display Option
    • Checked → The commodity group is visible in the Commodity Group dropdown (Items Menu → Add/Edit Item form).
    • Unchecked → The commodity group is hidden and will not be available for selection.
  5. Note – Enter any additional details related to this commodity group.

Step 3: Save the Commodity Group

  • Click the Save button to confirm and create the commodity group.

2. Editing a Commodity Group

To modify an existing commodity group:

Step 1: Access the Commodity Group Menu

  1. Navigate to Settings under the Inventory Module from the left sidebar.
  2. Select Commodity Group from the menu.

Step 2: Edit the Commodity Group

  1. Hover over the commodity group to be modified and click Edit.
  2. Make the necessary changes.
  3. Click Save to apply the updates.

3. Deleting a Commodity Group

If a commodity group is no longer in use, you can delete it.

Step 1: Access the Commodity Group Menu

  1. Navigate to Settings under the Inventory Module from the left sidebar.
  2. Select Commodity Group from the menu.

Step 2: Delete the Commodity Group

  1. Hover over the commodity group to be deleted and click Delete.
  2. Confirm the deletion in the pop-up message.
  3. The commodity group will be permanently removed.

Final Notes

  • Commodity groups help categorize inventory more effectively, making it easier to manage stock.
  • Use the display option wisely to control which groups appear in item selection lists.
  • Deleted commodity groups cannot be recovered, so ensure they are no longer required before deletion.
