Commodity Type in Inventory Management Module

The Commodity Type defines the classification of inventory items. This data is used in the Commodity Type dropdown on the Add/Edit Item page.


1. Adding a New Commodity Type

To add a new commodity type to your organization:

Step 1: Access Commodity Type Settings

  1. Navigate to Settings under the Inventory Module from the left sidebar.
  2. Select Commodity Type from the menu.
  3. Click the Add Commodity Type button.

Step 2: Enter Commodity Type Details

On the Add Commodity Type page, fill in the following details:

  1. Commodity Type Code – Enter a unique identifier for the commodity type.
  2. Commodity Type Name – Specify the name of the commodity type.
  3. Order – The lower the order number, the higher the commodity type appears in the Commodity Type dropdown.
  4. Display Option
    • Checked → The commodity type is visible in the Commodity Type dropdown (Items Menu → Add/Edit Item form).
    • Unchecked → The commodity type is hidden and will not be available for selection.
  5. Note – Enter any additional details related to this commodity type.

Step 3: Save the Commodity Type

  • Click the Save button to confirm and create the commodity type.

2. Editing a Commodity Type

To modify an existing commodity type:

Step 1: Access the Commodity Type Menu

  1. Navigate to Settings under the Inventory Module from the left sidebar.
  2. Select Commodity Type from the menu.

Step 2: Edit Commodity Type

  1. Hover over the commodity type to be modified and click Edit.
  2. Make the necessary changes.
  3. Click Save to apply the updates.

3. Deleting a Commodity Type

If a commodity type is no longer in use, you can delete it.

Step 1: Access the Commodity Type Menu

  1. Navigate to Settings under the Inventory Module from the left sidebar.
  2. Select Commodity Type from the menu.

Step 2: Delete the Commodity Type

  1. Hover over the commodity type to be deleted and click Delete.
  2. Confirm the deletion in the pop-up message.
  3. The commodity type will be permanently removed.

Final Notes

  • Organizing commodity types helps streamline inventory classification and improves searchability.
  • Use the display option wisely to control which commodity types appear in the item selection lists.
  • Deleted commodity types cannot be recovered, so ensure they are no longer required before deletion.
